Great system!
We purchased this system a couple of months ago for our motorhome. We just got home from a trip and loved it! Shipping was very fast. I broke a little piece off the monitor stand and they shipped a new one out the same day at no charge. Very nice people. Very easy to install. I installed the wiring under the motorhome while my husband installed the camera and hooked up the power supply. Our rearview mirror inside the motorhome is useless so we intalled the monitor above the mirror and leave the camera on the whole time we are travelling and use it as a rearview mirror. Now we can see our towed vehicle and all the traffic behind us. It eliminates all blind spots. It is just awesome! We feel much more confident now travelling with this camera/monitor system. It works great at night too. We highly recommend this system.

Great product - could use some improvement though
I just installed the Rear View Camera system in my 2003 Ford E350 "box van" as abackup camera, and I have to say the construction of the camera is SOLID. VERYheavy-duty build quality that looks like it will last. Performance is also verygood - in all but the sunniest of conditions, where it's a little washed out. Ihave the monitor mounted on the windshield right where the rear-view mirrorwould be installed (as my van has no mirror - no rear window!).Now for the "cons":1. The connector at the end of the camera wire is quite large. In my case, thecamera is mounted to a 1/8" stainless steel frame at the top/rear of the truck.The camera connector calls for a 5/8" or larger hole to be drilled (larger ifyou wish to use the included rubber grommet). That is fine if drilling a thin-skincamper side. But 1/8" stainless is another matter altogether! I had tobuy a $20 5/8" bit, and it took 6 smaller holes...

Great backup camera system

Rear View System
Very nice system for the money. The system was delivered very quickly. Instructions were not very detailed, but installation is common sense. Side cameras had to be opened and circuit boards turned to work properly. But overall system works great.

Augments old Black and White system
My RV has a black and white Sony that is good for parking the rig but that was about all. I wanted side cameras that would provide a broader view of what was going on next to the RV.The 7" monitor is clear and easy to see with good picture quality. The controls are intuitive and it only takes a couple of minutes to figure everything out.The side cameras were marked left and right on the cable and were easy to install. Drilling a 3/4 inch whole was easy and the grommet fit snugly. Each of the three cameras come with a sixty foot extension cable so there was lots of slack to deal with on the side cameras. My RV is 40 feet long and there was plenty of cable to go front to back.The cameras are rugged and easily adjusted and it only took a couple of trips up the ladder to get the rear set where I wanted it.The way the system is meant to be installed requires connection to trigger circuits that activate the monitor and appropriate camera...

Documentation
The camera system is good, works well, but the documentation supplied is absolutely worthless. It gives you device size, weight, but zero information on how to hook up or what to do with screws and remote control supplied. No information on mode settings, in short they would have been better off not supplying a single page rather than the booklet they shipped. Additionally, there is no indication on any of the cameras as to which side is up. I installed them and learned they were upside down the hard way. An additional issue are the wire leads supplied. Way to short to reach anything such as the power supply or blinkers or ground. SOmeone at the manufacturer also believes it is a good idea to call the cameras 1 and 2 rather than left and right. Like I said, the system works well once you struggle through it, but based on the documentation, I would almost give it a one star rating.

For Around $55 It Is A Very Good Backup Camera and Monitor
This Pyle PLCM36 3.5" TFT LCD Backup Camera and Monitor is my first backup camera system purchase. Vision behind my Dodge Sprinter HighTop van is poor because of my wheelchair lift. I have a friend who had an after market backup system in her Toyota Tacoma for $500+. The display (monitor) in her Toyota is in the center of the mirror. Her Toyota uuit is no doubt "better quality" although she could find or produce any specs for her camera or mirror monitor. Seeing her system sent me on a search for my own backup system.I think this unit, camera and monitor, are as good as her Toyota install setup.The PLCM36 system is wired to be activated and display what the camera sees when you put your vehicle in reverse. The camera is wired to connect to the hot 12v wire connecting to your backup lights. Pretty good for the money
Just installed this camera system sucessfully. Even though the install is somewhat simple it really doesn't come with instructions.The instructions are non-existent so you need to know a little bit before you start. In order to install it in my '03 Ford Taurus I had to do the following....1) drill out a hole behind the license plate for the camera cord to go (there was an existing hole, but I needed a drill and dremel to make it bigger).2) remove a lot of the paneling inside the trunk (pretty easy if you buy one of those tools to pop off the plastic rivets that holds the molding in place) you can get this tool at any car parts place for about $83) find the wire going to the reverse light (black with pink stripe in my car's case) and a ground wire (black)....don't forget to disconnect the battery first4) splice the camera wire onto the reverse light wire and ground wire5) put everything back6) run the camera wire up to the front of the...

not easy to install
Went to install the plcm36 on Saturday and got it all installed, but it didn't work. Had an extra power cable that is not shown in your installation guide anywhere. Come to find out from [...] that the monitor needs 12v power (not shown in your instructions) just like the camera. Had to go get a 12v adapter so I could get power to the monitor. Works fine now. Your installation instruction need some major corrections.The instructions also list a line that says 'required drill cutout tool INCLUDED) but wasn't included.

Before install the directions are garbage so look at them once and toss it. It's a pretty simple connection though red= positive, black= negative, green= brake line & the other is obvious video. Installing the back-up camera was of course easy: unscrew the license plate boom your done. Camera power cable just taps into your rear power line from the lights: Check voltage: and run the ground to a good spot and your camera is done. Running the wires was not too much fun but still not too bad just invest in some zip ties to secure the line. Of course mounting the unit on the already there mirror is easy. You sort of have 2 choices on the power: either go with an accessory line as long as you get 12 volts, below that equals a crappy picture. Or you can run the power to your battery and have the choice to turn it off and on every time you get in and out of the car. Please connect it to an ACC power line it will be so much easier. Great backup system but TERRIBLE instructions, UNITL NOW
I like the system. It is really cool backing up looking into the rear-view mirror and seeing everything behind the car. I feel like I can drive in reverse anywhere. I think it will really help when I am backing up my trailor. With that said, the instructions are worthless. Since they are, I will describe my installation here on a Honda Ody 2005:1. Find a 12V power adapter (kind you plug into cigarette lighter, they come with lots of electronics so you probably have one somewhere. If not it can be purchased at RShack)/2. Cut off the plug end that goes into the electronic item (not the end that goes into the cig lighter).3. Splice the cut wires into the Pyle Monitor's wires (the red is power and the black is ground). On my 12V adapter, the black wire was ground and the black-with-white-stripe wire was hot.4. I did not use the green wire and will explain later.5. Back up camera
Nice product for such a low price. The monitor is great because it slips right over your rear view mirror. When the camera is off, the monitor serves as a rear view mirror. The monitor is set up to handle TWO cameras.I used mine for the front bumper of my Rock Crawler Jeep so I can see the road immediately in front of the bumper for obstacles. The same company offers a much higher quality camera at a reasonable cost as well. I switched the original camera to the rear. I then mounted the higher resolution wider angle camera on the front, mounting it into a waterproof type household electric outlet box and mounting it to the lower front bumper. The original camera that comes with the set is a 160 degree camera, and can bolt onto your licence plate. The higher quality is a 180 degree camera at higher resolution, but requires some clever tricks to figure out how to mount it.The bad side of this purchase: HORRIBLE INSTRUCTIONS. Mixed feelings
This product contains no instructions on installation or use and Pyle has been unresponsive to several inquiries. This is my reason for most of the 1 "star" deduction. The package contains a cartoon schematic diagram that does not match the components. I am still struggling to wire this system (my problem accessing required vehicle wires), but I have made a test hookup to assess the components. The video wire from the camera to the monitor is about 6 feet too short. I chose a wired system because of the problems reviewers have encountered with wireless systems, but with a wired system one has to remove interior moldings to conceal the wires. The camera produces a good clear, color image on the supplied large monitor. I have not yet assessed the ability to handle low light conditions. The large monitor is good for seeing detail, and the distance lines are helpful, but the monitor is too large to attach to the windshield with the supplied mount in light of the shape of the dashboard in...

Should have purchased camera & monitor separately
The 7 inch monitor is better than the 3.5 and 4.3 inch monitors although you need room to mount it. I always had bad luck with suction mounts for not being reliable so I removed the suction mount which left me with a horizontal hole in the bracket. I inserted a 1 inch long 1/8 inch dia bolt and nut into this hole with two small angle brackets that I got from home depot. I then screwed in two screws into the two small angle brackets and tighten the nut and bolt for a very solid and stable mount on my dash. I ended up with two screw holes in my dash but my Astro Van is +10 years old so this was OK with me. The instructions are not very detailed but there were only fives electical wires: a black, red and green wires at the monitor and a red and black at the camera. Red means +12 volts, while black means ground. Green means +12V when you put the tranmission into reverse to turn on the monitor. I elected not to connect the green wire which means I have to turn on the monitor...

Awesome camera, but no instructions
The wide angle camera works like a charm, day or night: I finally can see everything that's going on in the many blind spots of my car! I especially love the distance lines: No more guessing when I drive in and out of my very tight garage entry, which has a huge drop-off right behind. The night vision is awesome, as the backup lights of the car light up the scene more than enough. The crystal clear color monitor is huge, about the same size as my left and right rear view mirrors. I attached it to the lower left of my windshield, so it doesn't bother me when I'm driving.The camera only turns on when the gear is put in "rear". There is a very short delay before the monitor lights up. A remote control was also included, but I have no idea what I could use it for.
