Solid Portable DVD Player
When I bought this at Best Buy a couple of weeks ago, I thought I was buying the DVP-FX950, which had received pretty good reviews. I didn't realize at the time that I was actually buying the replacement for that model, the DPV-FX970, but I'm very happy that I did. There have been a couple of significant improvements to address the shortcomings of the previous model. This is the first portable DVD player I've owned, but I messed about with a few others in the store. Here are my thoughts.I like the size and feel of DVD player itself. The swiveling hinge feels very sturdy and has a bit of a snap to it when it closes but there is no latch to keep it closed. The screen can be rotated 180 degrees and then laid flat if so desired. The case does not feel cheap to me. It has a nice texture to it which helps when it's being gripped. You will probably find, as I did, that the exterior holds fingerprints and smudge marks very well, but that's not a big problem...

The Best in it's Class
NOTE: If you are only going to be play store bought DVDs then this player may not be for you and you can skip this review. The Sony DVP-FX950 is the same player without the ability to play MPEG4 files and it has no USB. The DVP-FX950 is also less expensive. If you have no desire to play video files then the Sony DVP-FX950 is for you.The Sony DVP-FX970 is awesome at this price point. Having researched all other comparable players and personally tried out many; the Sony is better in every category except battery life in some cases (although 6 hours is still very solid). The screen picture quality is fantastic. It's not HD, but its close to the best you can get without bluray. It is the highest resolution you can get at this price. It's a clear, crisp and bright picture. The sound quality is great for a portable player. This player is as sold as any portable DVD player I have held. The Sony has a nice feel and design. The biggest reason I am writing a review is to clear up...

It's perfect for me
I have only had this for a few days so I cannot comment on logevity. Granted, I haven't had much time to experiment but so far I really like it. I do not think it is cheap looking or feeling, as another reviewer stated. I love the picture quality- it's very crisp and clear. The sound is everything I would expect and it's much better than an older portable DVD player I have. If I were to compare the two, there would be no fair comparison. This one is sooo much nicer! I love the 9 inch screen. The swivel may come in handy but I don't see it as a selling point for me. I have taken this unit outside to see how it plays in the sunshine which is not so good. I could watch it in a shaded area just fine but direct sunlight is too harsh. I have not tried fiddling with the controls to change the view settings though. There may be a way to do that. However, I don't see that I would need to be watching a DVD out in the sun. I don't notice much spinning noise as I have in other units...

Cool Cooler Coolest
Yes, this little puppy really does work as advertised. Just wet the sponge, turn the unit on, and point the air stream at your face.Ahhhhhh...The Handy Cooler appears to be well built. The fan is very quiet. You can put the unit on a desk or tabletop, and it will blow a nice stream of cool air at you.I like the way you can rotate the air head ninety degrees, giving you greater flexibility in positioning the unit. I also like the little water bottle they give you, which holds two "recharges". Yes, they have figured out how much water you can add to keep cool without water dribbling from the unit. They figure you can go from thirty minutes to three hours on a "full" sponge, depending on your environment.I have told the company that makes the Handy Cooler that they need to introduce a shoulder holster, so you can wear it around and use it hands-free. In the meantime, I am going to see if I can rig up some sort of shoulder sling or...

Really Works! Just Finished Using it at Disney World for our 6Mo. She Stayed Cool in the FLORIDA Heat!
We knew we were in trouble bringing an infant to Disney World and Miami Beach. We knew we had to keep her cool in the Florida heat or our vacation was over.We bought x2 baby kits (mesh bag holder, flexible tube, & HCs). We used two handy coolers and baby kits the first day at DW but the batteries lasted for 5 hours on the first day and we only had x8(ENELOOPs). So we decided to run only one at a time and swap out batteries for a total of 10 hours run time on high. The sponge is a hassle to remove out of the mesh bag and wet it and then put back while constantly moving with our pack. With the heat the sponge dries in less than an hour. So we added a Frozen water bottle on top of the sponge that constantly wets the sponge and it melts and gives off really cold air from the melting bottle. When its melted we just drink it and replace it with a new frozen one from the ice cooler. This set up worked really great for out two week trip in Disney World and South Florida. Amazing...

I like it so far.
I'm in the Navy, therefore I sleep in a tiny, tiny, often hot space with no air circulation. I ordered this because there is only so much night-sweat and dude-funk one can take in this sort of environment. It just came in the other day, but it appears sufficient to cool a cramped, curtained, coffin-like enclosure! The noise at high-speed is a total non-issue; trust me, the engines drown it out completely. If you're ordering one of these for your sailor, I recommend the pink one. The guys who've seen it all want one, but nobody is going to steal something in pink.Honestly, I wish it were less expensive, but the build quality is solid enough that I think it'll survive until I get back, and that's really all that counts.

Exceeded My Expectations
The HP 2711x has exceeded my highest expectations. I upgraded from an HP w2207h which I'd had for a few years and was also very happy with it as well. It's still working fine on another computer now. My primary use is for the 2711x is the post processing of photos with Adobe PhotoShop CS5. The monitor is very bright and can be set between 50 to 60 % brightness and 60 and 70 % contrast without any problem and I find the color reproduction to be the best I've seen in this price range. I've found most monitor on display in local retailer set to there highest brightness settings just to achieve the same color impact I'm getting from the 2711x in the mentioned ranges on this monitor. In terms of sharpness it's fantastic the gloss type Bright View screen makes all the difference for me as most other monitors on the market are semi-gloss which I have found detracts from a good image quality when dealing with photos. I use the monitor in a private office environment which allows me control...

The monitor is really looks great and big. True that you can't swivel it much but no real need for most people.Nice and bright with very little difference on picture color difference where you are sitting.I was imagining a good monitor but this monitor surpassed my exception's by a good margin.No pixel out of place, no dead pixel, graphics look clean and crisp, LED bright enough that I turned it down to 55.I have DVI for windows 7 machine and font looks great, but I also have it set up setup through HDMI to OS X MacMini and it looks even more crisp when it comes to the font.You will have no problems liking this monitor but be warned that its big and at first you may wonder did you really need something this big and if you could have gone with a 24 inch version. Don't even bother with the non LED 27" monitor
Really quik I just wanted to come on and review this product. Although I've only had it plugged in for a couple hours, iI think I'm 100% satisfied.No dead pixels, IT's ULTRA THIN!!! It feels like I could hold it in my lap it is so thin and light.The AC adapter sits outside of the monitor, which I think is its only downfall. I don't particularly like the look of cords, and especially big black boxes. There is no audio jack, or at least I haven't found it.Set up was easy, it runs cool, I think I've gotten over the need to get a 30" apple cinema display with this monitor. Beautiful!!!This is my 6th HP minotor. I'm a huge "Bright View" fan. I like my images on the brighter side. The contrasts look excellent. The Energizer L91 Lithium AA cell is a fantastic power source. For high-drain applications, it offers great advantages over ordinary alkaline cell and rechargeable NiMH cell. However, it is also very expensive as a disposable battery. So it is important to recognize the strength of L91, and use it only in applications that give you the best results. Otherwise you'll be wasting your money.According to data sheet published by Energizer, the capacity of the Lithium AA cell (L91) is 3000mAh. This number remains nearly constant with load current. In comparison, the ordinary Alkaline battery (such as the ) is rated as 2800mAh, but only at a very light load of 25mA.
