Tried and tested and profitable!
I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would. My concern was that it might be full of concepts I couldnt understand. It isnt full of jargon but when neccessary it can be technical. The good news is that the examples given quickly explain the technical bits which deepens the understanding. I also like it because it is about a philosophy of trading and how you can create your own style/philosophy. The author has made some good money trading and he has lost money too. Again the advantage here is you get to learn from his experience before you trade yourself. You can also contact him for further advice.If you are interested in Trading this is a great book to get you started.

Very Insightul, simple yet powerful

Best Beginner Book on FX Trading Currently on the Market
Overall, I thought this book gives a great overview on how and when the Interbank FX market operates, a basic overview of technical analysis, and some useful tips on practical matters of trading like how to choose a broker/platform and what to consider when setting up a trade. Having traded the Forex market for over 2 years now and having read a number of books specific to Forex trading, I think this book is the best book geared toward novice traders currently available.However, I felt this book could have done better in a few areas: it walks you through considerations to construct a trading plan but doesn't provide a detailed example of one (preferably the authors'). This book actually walks through a trade set up (shorting the USD/JPY) and details the things to consider, but it was picked seemingly at random (based on a double doji) and not from some back tested trading methodology. Best Forex Trading Book Period!!!!!!!
I thought this book would be typical nuts and bolts book.I was soooo wrong.This book is a book of strategy,fundamentals,mental game and a lot more. If you are just starting or a veteran purchase this book... It gives you those jewels that you hear and wonder," where that come from?". The indicator section is the best. So many traders are always trying out the new indicator. Truth be told they all are the same. Your overall package as a trader is what makes you profitable, not 50 moving averages crossing. I hope I helped someone to make a proper choice in a great overall book on Forex. Forex is the best market out here period, but the books and information available are lacking real substance. Do not let the title fool you. This book is written by owners of Forex brokerages. They hold nothing back. This book is for dummies and pros a like.

Excellent book on currency trading
I have spent 20 years researching and trading stocks and bonds, and was interested in currency trading. I purchased a number of books on foreign exchange. I read this book first, Essentials of Foreign Exchange Trading, and I found it an excellent choice. It has also been a good companion to my experimentation and trading on one of the major FX trading websites.It starts off with a good introduction to the principles of currency trading and includes a discussion of a wide range of trading approaches to help understand which best fit your personality and style. The chapters that dive in on technical analysis (using candlesticks, moving averages, fibonacci/pivot point, elliott wave) are especially good; it is obviously the author's specialty. That was good for me since my background is in fundamental analysis and the author's treatment of technical analysis was comprehensive and helpful. The sections on fundamental analyses were good too, although I went through them...

Great read - definitely recommend it
I traded forex a couple of years ago and I've just gotten back into it recently. Got this book right when it came out because I've been following the author's daily currencies analysis and attended a few of the webinars he gives. From the title of the book I was thinking that it might be a bit basic for me since I've traded forex pretty extensively before. But it's turning out to be extremely helpful because it has a lot of really useful strategies and techniques. The book pretty much goes all the way from beginner to advanced and explains everything really thoroughly and clearly. I have two other books on forex trading that I bought in the past, but this one is by far the most complete and useful one. For me, chapter 5 on forex trading methods and strategies was one of the most comprehensive descriptions of trading strategies that I've seen. Also really liked the technical analysis chapter. Definitely recommend this book.

A decent introduction, but with a few flaws
I'm a bit mixed on Essentials of Foreign Exchange Trading. In terms of a basic overview and description of the retail forex market I think it does a pretty good job. Chen covers all the bases from a brief overview of how we got to where we are in terms of market structure, the basics of forex pricing and trading mechanics, and overviews of technical and fundamental analysis. This is something you would certainly expect from someone who works for a broker.There are also a number of different trading strategies discussed. That ranges from the different timeframes (day, swing, position) to the broad styles of trading (trend, range), and incorporates some of the methodologies (breakouts, chart patterns, Fibonacci, pivot points, Elliott Wave, etc.) as well as discussions of topics like carry and news trading. Surprised me and learned a lot
I picked How to Trade because it looked a little smaller and more manageable than a lot of books I've seen that look like they would make great doorstops. I'm a new trader and I wanted to get a feel for what trading is all about. By page 26 I learned more than I ever expected about how and why we are lied to all the time in the media by the experts, which I always suspected but never could exactly figure out. The whole last part of the book had myth after myth debunked about trading, the markets, and investing. This is stuff I've been hearing my whole life, and guess what---most of it is dead wrong. This explains why so many people lose on such a consistent basis. There were a few annoying typos here and there, like EFT instead of ETF, and I wish the book was a little longer and got into more specifics and tools, but overall, quite a lot of info, very condensed and very good, by someone who at least comes off like a real trader who has been there. Pretty hard to go wrong for 10 bucks...

This book gives me hope
As one of the people who got a bit too excited during the tech boom - let's just say I was late to the party. Following random tips and advice I admit I really got caught up in the moment at the time. After being burned, I threw my hands up in the air and started playing it safe just letting my broker make all the calls. But I'm starting to realize that I need to be a lot more active than I am - educate myself and really be able to evaluate the job he is doing.This book really gets you back to basics and fundamentals. It creates a foundation of understanding so you can make your money work for you. It's not about getting rich quickly - although you can - it's about being a smarter investor and taking control of the money you've worked so hard to earn. I'm super excited for the plain speak and don't feel overwhelmed with this book. I have no doubt it would be a great book for anyone who maybe picked up a little bit here and there and would like to really get a clean start...
