It sure as hell got me hooked
I was never much into manga a few months ago. One fateful afternoon, though, I was bored in class and lo and behold, a casual friend of mine let me read one of his mangas. It happened to be the one I'm reviewing. And the addiction begins. Right after school I rushed and picked up a copy of this.I used to be one of the people who'd kind of look down on manga - the expressions were funny, the dialogue was kind of hokey. My entire perspective of it changed once I started reading "Hana Kimi." The plotline is gold - a girl tries to hide her sex while attending an all boys school and swooning over her high jumping hero. The characters are eclectic and their personalities are strong, making you soon love and hate certain characters right at their introduction. The art is brilliant too; in a later volume, Mizuki's expression when she discovers accidently crawling into bed with Sano is CLASSIC.This is a great beginning to a great series. Love it!
Hana-Kimi is about a spunky girl named Mizuki Ashiya. An American-Japanese track-and-field star who transfers to a japanese school from the U.S for one reason only... to see her idol, Izumi Sano, jump in the high jump. Sano, during a big tournament, gets tramatized about high jumping because of the pressure. Oh yeah did I mention that Mizuki is pretending to be a boy? She tries to get Sano to go back to high-jumping by encouraging him and, well, bugging him about it. Naturally Sano thinks that Mizuki is really weird because "she" always follows him around and can't really hide the fact completely that "she" likes him. This series really hooks you and it has really interesting plots all throughout. There are times when they have a school festival and one of the activities is sort of like a "miss japan" for the school. Hilarious Hijinks
I'm just starting out with reading manga, but I can tell I've found a gem in this one (only the 4th manga I'd ever read). After being sort of bored and uninspired with Kare Kano after reading two good drama/action mangas, I wasn't too trusting of the shoujo genre. Then I saw a review for Hana Kimi online. It sounded promising, and lo- Viz was putting out an english version! So, I bought it and started reading. It was very interesting from the first page on, (although Mizuki's brief bout of fangirling was a bit offputting in the first few pages). Then Nakatsu appeared, and I was lost in laughing. The whole manga was just one long string of HILARIOUS occurences. I liked it so much I bought the second volume soon as I could!All the characters are very likeable. My favorite would be Nakatsu cause he's sooo funny and sincere at the same time. Even Sano, for all his annoying angsty behavior, gets a more agreeable personality as the volume goes on. Sweet and Adorable
Hana-Kimi is one of my favorite manga, because when true love called, our heroine Mizuki answered the call. She's strong and determined, and also very intelligent. It's refreshing to see a love story in which the characters are well defined, and you won't be asking "Who's he again?" or "Where did he come from?" I bought this book by accident, on a manga-buying-spree, and thought I might as well read it before giving it to a friend. However, after the first chapter, I decided to keep it. I highly recommend this to any reader.

Bitter Sweet!? YOSH!
After reading the manga, I HAD to see if an anime was made. To my surprise they actually made a LIVE ACTION SHOW!! (with a LOT of eye candy!!:nosebleed:) I do prefer the Japanese version, I dunno why but the actors really brought out something deep inside me and portrayed the story well. It was like you became part of the story just by gluing your eyes to the screen. Trust me I've spent a sleepless night watching this show, ehehehe, even when I had to work early the next day! That's how awesome it is. The only thing I wish they shown was more, erm, cuddle times with Sano and Mikuzi. That was my only peeve. Other then that, if you loved the manga series this live action will keep you staring at the screen till the very end. It does so for me every time I watch it. They picked the perfect trio for Mizuki, Sano and Nakatsu! :Bows down before Hisaya Nakajo-sempai: WE LOVE YOU!!!!

A personal love for all time
This series is amazing. I absolutely love it with a capital L. Personally, I prefer it to the Taiwan version - although Wu Zun Chun is Fine! - It goes in deeper with the personal stories of individual characters to the point that it feels like you're apart of their school life, which is better then focusing solely on the main characters. Doing so runs the risk of it going dull. In the Taiwan version the feelings that Xiu Yi has for Rui Xi kinda just make you laugh ... other times to squirm uncomfortably. While in this version, Nakatsu - the equivalent of Xiu Yi - his feelings for Ashya Mizuki (Rui Xi) make you feel really sorry for him, occasionally drawing a tear. However, he is still incredibly funny, although in a completely different -and better- way then the other guy. The ending of this series couldn't be better. It was so bitter sweet and ... you just can't put it into words. It had me crying my eyes out and then laughing with joy in the last minute of the show. There are...

BE CAREFUL!!!
ok so i bought a version of this dvd set and i thought it was subbed beautifully. the english was fantastic and the subbed dialogue co-related with the humor perfectly... except for the very last episode. I was not able to understand it because it seemed like it was translated directly from chinese or taiwanese. It was really bad, i'm talking extremely broken english. This made me really upset because I sat for hours enjoying 11 episode of this show and I didn't get to watch the two hour finale. And the guy that I bought it from deleted his account and disappeared. So if you're buying this item, please be careful. the set that I bought was a two-set with a nicely-presented cardboard cover that opens up with advertisement of other dramas on the side. If the that you are buying is similar, make sure you ask a lot of questions before you buy it.

What no bonus chapter?!?!
Hana Kimi is my absolute favorite manga. I previously read every volume through online scanlations - scans of the manga translated from Japanese. However, there was no bonus chapter in this volume. I was expecting it to include the chapter after the series ended, but it didn't. I was severely disappointed with that. Either way, I'm still glad I was able to get all of the volumes in English, but many people are upset with how the series ends. I think the bonus chapter really should have been included in this.
