I love this vacuum! It is one of the best purchases I've ever made.PROS:* Picks up so much hidden dirt in our thick carpet, it scared us the first time we looked in the canister!* For how much power it has, it is actually very quiet - actually quieter than our old 10 amp vacuum* Turns on a dime and gets into nooks and crannies really well - we don't have to use the hand tools on every single wall edge* The attachment with moving brushes cleans stares amazingly well* No filters or bags to buy - this is a huge plus as we could never find a replacement filter for our old vacuum* The cord is very long and it retracts into the vacuum. Couldn't Be Happier With My Hoover Vacuum Cleaner
I previously had a Hoover Windtunnel, it lasted two houses and over 9 years and it finally had enough of keeping up with our two children and 4 pets. So I went out to every website I could find with reviews on vacuum cleaners, including Amazon, and looked at everything from the Dyson, Kenmore, Dirt Devil, Hoover, and so many more. I promised myself that after I used my vacuum cleaner for 3 months I would help all those out there like me looking for a good review and let them know about my experience because the reviews were so helpful to me.So after reading a bunch of reviews I was leaning towards a Dyson or a Kenmore Progressive. If your new machine LEAKS, see note #2 below. I am just amazed at how many people write that their machine leaked from day one, and they returned it. It will leak if you skip a crucial one-time set-up step.Paid $170 at Best Buy. This is my first carpet cleaner so I have nothing to compare it to except my own expectations. Even though the name is SteamVac, like all the others in this class of cleaners, there is no Steam to it. That's just false marketing, but all the manufacturers do it, so no particular knock on Hoover.First, let me say I'm ashamed to admit that our carpet hadn't been cleaned in 4 years, and that we live in the country where lots of dirt gets tracked in from outside. Slower than the pro machines, but cleans just as well
The Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac with Clean Surge works astonishingly well for a consumer carpet cleaner. There are some limitations and some gotchas; I'll tell you about both.There's a 2-page "Quick Assembly Guide" and a 40-page manual. If you want your assembly guide with pictures and few words you'll like the QAG. If you prefer verbal instructions, turn to pages 4-6 of the manual; I wish I'd started there first. (It takes me longer to figure out "Store Hose" with four illustrations showing a hand in various steps of the process than to understand the eight sentences that accomplish the same instruction.)There's no heater in the "SteamVac", so make your gallon of water VERY hot for best cleaning. And prepare your carpet for cleaning before filling the tank with these two steps: (1) vacuum thoroughly; and (2) pre-treat heavily soiled or grease-stained areas. Great cleaning
The F5914 really cleans carpets well. On my worst carpet area, the cleaner did as well as a commercial carpet cleaner. I recommend the following to make it a successful cleaning:1) I supplement the hot water with some boiling water to really get the temperature up. By the time the water hits the spray nozzle, it has really cooled off so make it hotter. Bissell uses a heater, but it can't be that powerful without reducing motor power. Best to supplement.2) Patience. Go slow and go over really bad areas. You will HAVE to pretreat and hand wash heavy stains, but so do the pros. Don't expect a diamond out of coal. You still have to do the work.3) Clean often. I have one carpet that I waited way too long and it just won't come clean. The pros can't and I can't. BIG lesson learned there.Have fun with this. I can't believe how much dirt there was in my "clean" areas, so it will be great to have this around to clean when I desire to. I saved more...

I actually modified TWO 7 year old eureka "theboss cordlesss upright vacuum" to use sears lithium batteries because the nickel cadmium batteries all other vacuums use are so poor. Great Performer Except Battery Life
I bought this after seeing the TV Commercial and reading the previous reviews. I have three Scottish Terriers who bring the outside inside on a daily basis. This little vacuum more than handles their combined "footprint." Suction power is great, and ability to turn off roller helps immensely with area rug fringes. Battery power is the major disappointment. Indeed, you cannot waste time as your battery life will limit your square coverage. I was able to cover a 17 x 21, a 10 x10, a 20 x 8 and 12 x 14 room on one charge. That said, if more attention to detail was paid to nooks I am not sure I would have acheived this much. Like the previous reviewer I am debating keeping the machine. An extra battery might alleviate the problem - however, with ability to only charge one battery at a time you are really looking at a six hour gap between cleanings. I plan to call Hoover to see what extra battery/charger options, if any are available. With battery improvement I would give 5...

Great Vaccuum for the $$
We purchased this vacuum about 8 months ago. I waited to write my review to give it enough time to break in and turn crappy. To my surprise it's still such an amazing vacuum! We cost compared, quality compare and feature compared when we were shopping for vacuums. We knew we needed something that would do well for long cat hair and long dog hair, but would also be good for keeping allergies at bay. We compared the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser, Bissell Healthy Home, Dyson Animal, and this Hoover Pet Rewind. My hubby and I were so unimpressed with the Bissell's cause they were dang heavy! I know when we go to buy a house I certainly would not want to lug those Bissell's all over creation. They also didn't have nearly the features the hoover did. The Dyson animal was out because how can something that's made out of the same plastics as the hoover and the Bissell cost nearly $500 unless it's going to vacuum for me, I don't need it. We were skeptical to purchase the Hoover cause I don't know...

It sucks - which is a good thing
Like most "dudes", vacuuming is way low on stuff I like to do but wallowing in my own entropic filth is even lower on the list so this puppy seems to fit the bill quite well.The goods:1. Good suction power. Some stuff like threads that tend to get entangled in the rug fibers don't get sucked in by the brush (which is not surprising) but easy enough to pick up with the hose attachment.2. Automatic cord rewinder. Seriously - all vacuums should have this - totally wicked awesome.3. No bags. Frankly it's much easier and less messier than the bags used in my old vacuum.4. Filters can be easily accessed and rinsed out - nice.5. Easy to clean other parts. After all the years of vacuuming, my old one was nasty. Good, not great. Poor Dirt Container Design .
This vacuum does do a good job in picking up pet hair. However, the design of the dirt container is quite poor. The dirt container is extremely small, so you will be stopping in the middle of your cleaning to empty it often. Not only is the container small, but the container has a center cylindar that has a curved lip on the bottom of it preventing any clumped pet hair and dirt to fall out into the garbage when the container bottom is opened. I had to routinely stick my hand into the dirt container and pull out the dirt and pet hair in order to empty it. That is not pleasant or a clean feeling.The vacuum does have positives though, it did work well and I loved the pet hair attachments. The attachments worked very well - so well that the small dirt container couldn't keep up. Also, the cord rewind is awesome! Finally ... a Vacuum Cleaning System Worth the Money
First, a disclaimer of sorts .... I'm a long-term, died-in-the-wool Hoover evangelist. No, I don't work for Hoover, but I've always used them religiously for over 30 years. I would truly give this vacuum 100 stars if I could. Do you know what it is like to receive something that exceeds your expectations 10-fold? This was not an impulsive or inexpensive purchase, but it was worth every cent to have everything I have wished I could have in a vacuum. I have had an Oreck for the last 7 years and knew I could never use a non-lightweight vac again. I was thinking I would "have to" buy another Oreck, then saw a commercial for this Hoover. Buy This Vacuum!
I read Consumer Reports and the MANY reviews on Amazon before I made my purchase, and I just have to say: I love this vacuum! I have long hair and 2 pets, so I know what its like to need a good vacuum. This one sucks up everything on my hardwood and tile floors and on the carpet. The attachments' suction is also incredibly strong- love it for couches and carpeted stairs. And you can't beat the price, but mind you, I was so in need of a good vacuum, I was willing to pay $500-600 for a Dyson till I started researching vacuums. And: its NOT too loud. :)

Amazing Value!
Despite the rave reviews here on amazon and on other sites, I was not expecting much with such a low price. My expectations were certainly rewarded with an amazing value, a great vacuum, and the usual Amazon speedy delivery. It is really hard to believe that such a good product could be so inexpensive, even if it is made in Mexico. The build quality is excellent. However, for someone tall, like me, (6'4") the handle is not long enough, the bag is on the small side, and the unit is noisy (but not any more so than other vacuums I have had that were 3x the price), but those are the only negatives after a week of use. Instead of smelling dust while vacuuming, the air coming out of the vacuum is actually fresher and cleaner smelling than the air in the room. Searching amazon, one can find belts for $3 or less and bags less than $1 in quantity, so the unit should be inexpensive to operate.
