Great Poppy, easy to grow, and brilliant colors
The previous 1 star review is way off. He doesn't know anything about poppies. The Danish Flag is the exact same species of poppy grown in Afghanistan and elsewhere. This is a variety of an Afghani cultivar of the papaver somniferum bred for it's coloration. It's only called Danish Flag because of the colors and cross. But if he's ever seen a classic Afghan poppy he'd see the pattern is exactly the same, the red is just a lot redder in the Danish Flag variety. The Danish Flag is easy to grow as long as it has decent soil, enough space, full sun, and fairly dry conditions around flowering. Plant in the late Fall or early Spring. At germination and lettuce stage they prefer a shorter 12 hour day, at flowering they prefer a 16 hr or longer daytime. Try to plant where you intend to grow, they hate transplanting, and it will stunt their growth. Can be grown in pots with varying results depending on the pot's size. Keep them well drained. The seller shipped my seeds quickly. When i recieved them i didnt have any seed starter so i planted a few in some mulch and they sprouted really quick. ofcourse the mulch isnt good for growing seeds but they sprouted and grew. Great seeds. I Can highly recommend this seller and these seeds.

More than I expected, fast
I bought three different types of poppies from this vendor, and I think the service merits that I post the review for each purchase.I ordered Danish Flag, Turkish Black, and Peshawar White seeds. Where can you go wrong with these. Very earthy and unwashed. I guess Colorado Spice technically beats these, but the price for these beats them. With the current prices the math comes out to only $5.60 a pound.

Finally found what I am after
This supplier obviously has gardening in their blood, as the package I received had been put together with great care and attention to detail. Love the little seed packets, and full instructions given.I have been looking for Lauren's Grape for some time now, although I did not know it's name until now. I saw it growing in a garden I visited, and thought wow!! I have to have some of that. I had only got photographs to go on for comparison. Apparently Great Dixter has trialed it, and it had great reviews. Unable to get anyone to part with some seed here in the U.K. so I decided to go further afield.Whilst searching I also found this lovely white specimen. Can't wait to see what happens with these two specimens in 2010.Will definately keep this seller in my favourites for future purchases.

Prompt delivery, well packaged but won't grow
I have emailed the seller for pointers on how to succeed with these and never heard back. I tried sowing directly on the ground but they never germinated. I ordered more and started them in peat pots, some germinated, some did not, but those that did died soon after. The white Afgans never germinated, but the Pepperbox "gift" seeds did and a few of the Neons did. I was careful not to overwater so I'm not sure what the problem was. Everything came carefully packaged with instructions but I could not get the seller to respond to my questions. I would order from them again, but not until I get my germination issues sorted out.

My grandma made the best poppy seed buns when I was a kid, but in the USA I was forced to buy the poppy seeds in a tiny glass jar for $4.98 and they were always stale. Finally I found some for a reasonable price and good quality to boot. Thanks to Bob's Red Mill for making it possible again to share grandma's recipe with my kids.

I ground these with the Messerschmidt grain mill attachment for my Kitchen Aid (no oiliness issue) and I couldn't be happier with the results. Our poppy seed rolls were some of the best we've ever baked. The seeds were fresh. Not bitter. And because we tend to bake "low sugar", the flavor of the seeds really ... dare I say, "popped!" I grew these last summer with great success. I would suggest that the plant be staked.The stem and leaves are fairly unattractive. Suggest you plant this in the back and plant lower plants in front to hide it.

so far so good
The seeds arrived quickly and were correct (I even got a bonus packet of poppy seeds too, nice surprise!). I planted them inside a few weeks ago and they have all sprouted. I'm giving them 5 stars as of right now since I haven't had a problem yet. I'll be moving them outside in the next few weeks and I hope to see blooms soon after. I'll update later on the outcome.Update: Mine have started to flower, they dont look exactly like the picture, they dont have the white and purple center ring but they're still pretty. One bad thing is that the blooms dont last long. Some times I'll notice blooms when I'm leaving for work and when I get home all the petals have fallen off.The free package I was sent it really nice. They're all different colors and textures even on the same plant. The blooms dont last long on them either.
