One of my most favorite games
The entire Quest for Glory series is awesome, especially if you played the games as they came out and the graphics were state of the art for that time. QFG gives you the options of playing the game through 3 types of characters. You can be a fighter, magic user and thief. Later, in QFG 2, you can become a paladin and any imported character can become a paladin. In fact, QFG5 gives you a saved paladin character! Each character has different skills and solutions to the problems around him.Plus, you can start with one character in QFG1 and build up his skills and then use that same character to play any of the following games. It is easier to do this since the entire series is available. QFG1-4 is packaged together in a collection, while QFG5 is sold separately. There are mulitple cheats that you can find online, along with descriptions of the silly clowns in the game. There is also a place where you can download saved games to play as Elsa or Magmum. My only point...

TRUELY AWESOME
I like role playing games but only certain types. Games like Zelda, who's fighting is continuous. There are those games with alternative fighting (where you make a move and must wait for your opponent to make his move). I'm sure that those games are interesting but not my type.Quest for Glory V was the first computer role playing game I've played and I love it darely. The fighting is continuous and soooooo awesome. I was truly stunned. I recommend anyone who love role playing games to buy it.If you've never played 1-4 (like me) then you may not be too sure about the history. But QFG V is about this hero (you) trying to solve a murder mystery (who killed the king) and fighting the dragon (once he awakes). It is my favorate game ever (although it is my first). I've played it many times. My favorate character is of course, the wizard. But you can choose from a total of four (including the paladin whom you can use).Bottom line, Great game, neat story line,...

Worth Buying...
Throughout the years, I have played all the Quest for Glory games and really enjoyed them. This latest one, Dragon Fire, is just as good if not better than the earlier releases. According to today's technology, the graphics are a little cartoony, but it is still a wonderful adventure game. So many times you get games with excellent graphics, but rotten storylines. This isn't the case here. You get to customize your character and the neat thing is, your actions determine what happens to you. You can play the game over several times and not experience the same things. It is also neat that characters from past games appear throughout your journey, but it doesn't affect your gaming experience if you've never played the Quest series. I think these days you can find Dragon Fire in bargain bins, and of course here on Amazon, and it is well-worth spending a few dollars on.

A fantasy game of the dungeons-and-combat variety, Quest for Glory 5: Dragon Fire allows players to customize a hero and send him to Silmaria, a country whose king has been murdered. In order to flush out the perpetrator, you must enter the race for the throne, completing seven Rites of Rulership. First, of course, you must earn the required entry fee, either by slaughtering monsters or competing in arena combat.

Sound all too drearily familiar? A few intriguing features do separate this game from all of its fantasy role-playing siblings. The greatest of these is a sense of continuity with the previous Quest for Glory games. Not only do characters from older stories re-emerge--sometimes newly married, or better established in their careers--but you can import your old characters into Dragon Fire. Instead of starting anew, you can continue a long seamless adventure with a familiar hero. Other nice touches include a rarely seen haggling system, whereby you negotiate the prices of food, weapons, and spells with their various venders. The occasional treachery of seemingly trustworthy characters and a great sense of humor also add nice dimensions to the Quest for Glory universe.

Being tied to earlier games, though, gives this one less flexibility. You cannot play a nonhuman character--you cannot even play a female hero--and players are restricted to a few very broad character classes. Character statistics and customization options are also on the simple end of the spectrum, making the game seem older than it is. On the plus side, Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire has sharp graphics, some very tough dungeons, and a streamlined, easy-to-use interface. Most of all, it tells a good story and allows long-term players of this series to retire their hero in style. --Alyx Dellamonica Top to learn more

Combining the best elements of role playing with pulse-pounding action in the 3-D realm of Silmaria, Dragon Fire is a journey fraught with peril, mystery, and enchantment. Take the adrenaline rush alone or share it with friends on the Internet. The game is recommended for ages 13 and up. Top to learn more

A part of my childhood I'll never forget
This game series has a special place in my heart. I grew up with the Sierra adventure games, and its something I look back on fondly. I enjoy the first person shooters, real-time strategy and dungeon crawl RPGs of today, but there is something about the adventure game format that has been all but forgotten today. It's like reading a good book but being able to interact with the world and have it presented visually like a movie.Quest for Glory was something different though. Far more ambitious on a technical level than the other Sierra games, the series had a certain level of immersiveness to it that made it worth playing over and over, and still sticks with me today long after I last played it.The first obvious improvement over the other Sierra games was the adding of an RPG element. This was advertised as adding replayability to the game, but more importantly it adds a level of immersiveness that you don't see these days. When you start out in QG1, your ultimate goal is...

The best RPGs ever
I have been playing this series for thirteen years now, and have never grown tired of playing. Even now, I am discovering new aspect of the game.QFG1 is set in a "Germanic" setting, with all the traditional flare of medievalism. Aside from the fact that there is not much point playing a mage character (just give your thief or fighter magic instead), it is a perfect little game.QFG2 is set in an Arabic setting, borrowing heavy from "1001 Nights" to "Casablanca". It's use of text is quaint. Once again, the mage has little to do.QFG3 is a Kenya-like setting. Unlike most reviewers, I liked QFG3 except that it was by far the most linear of the series. Sort of buggy, especially if you play a fighter/paladin, but rather good.QFG4 could feel repetitive, as its Balkan-like setting is not that different from QFG1. All character classes will find things especially for them to do here. However, the game is horribly buggy; the Mad Monk Tomb section...

Beloved classics; these games are forever.
No game, excepting perhaps Baldur's Gate 2, is closer to my heart than the Quest for Glory games. Ancient by today's standards, they are still worth the time of anyone looking for charming story and characters, good puzzles, a big sense of humor, and even a bit of role-playing. They were made in a time when computer games were not a money-grubbing franchise, but a quirky art form that abounded with love. A bit of a lowdown: your character has statistics, like strength and charm, that determine his ability to perform feats and what paths he can take to overcome challenges. There are three hero classes--fighter, magic user, thief--and the gameplay is different for each choice. Each challenge often has two or three solutions, and the best choice depends on your class as well as your skills. You navigate your character through a world that goes through night and day cycles. You must keep food to eat and water to drink. The more you use a skill, the better you get at it--for...

Classic PC - modern gamers approach with caution!
Ah the QFG Anthology. I couldn't even say how many times I played through these games - easily five or more times on the first two and probably 3-4 times on the 3rd and 4th. This was of course back in the 90s, when there weren't that many good PC adventure/puzzle games and as a teenager, money was tight. Gamers who are used to cutting edge graphics and twitch game play should probably skip these all together, because that is not what QFG was about. Well ok, there was some twitching when you missed your forward thrust and ended up dying (complete with game over and a dead hero). Games 1 & 2 were originally presented with 16 bit graphics - that means 16 color blocky graphic style and you have to use a little imagination to enjoy them if you're not used to it. Still better than loading up old NES carts though, in my opinion. The first game was actually remade as SVGA at one point, but I almost recommend against playing that version, because Trial By Fire was NOT, and it is a...

Awwwwesome
I trucked through all the games a while ago. These are difficult, eat many hours. Not so much a hack and slash though there is plenty of fighting in it. You spend a lot of time just figuring out puzzles and doing tasks for someone to get somewhere or recieve something in return. I went through as a thief, with that I had access to the thieves guild while still being able to fight well and use magic. This game(s) dated though i will certainly go back and bash through them again, especially 1+2

Wonderful!
One of the best Strategy Guide books out there, the fantasty story only makes it better. Definatly a book for the Quest for Glory enthusiast. The only drawback is the lack of maps, but it is still great! I give it 4 1/2 stars.

It has its place
This is the hint book to the greatest series of games ever, the Quest For Glory series from Sierra On-Line. Each section has a story perspective, to let your know how your character would feel fro experience to experience. Then, for games 1-3, there is a more traditional walkthrough. However, there is no maps, and no guide telling you what you must do to get various game points. The fact that there is no traditional walkthrough of QFG4 is glaring. Worst of all, there is no mentions of the infamous bugs in the games and how to avoid or overcome them. There are worst guidebooks, but you can not be faulted for feeling that this book is lacking.

Good information - Needs maps and point lists

The Best game in the series.
This game is the best game in the entire series, its got sick humor, and a very dark and sinister story, and it was pretty violent for its day too, even with the bugs in the game i'd still say get it, you won't be dissapointed, its an amazing game.

Awesome Game
I specifically remember being at WalMart with my aunt when she picked this game up for my uncle at random. "This looks good" she said but I thought it looked terrible. The box was purple and the gameplay screens on the back didn't look interesting. After my uncle got it and started it up, I knew I would have to go out myself and buy a copy. The story is excellent, the characters are well developed and the graphics are smooth. This is certainly the best game I have ever played on any platform.

Old School Gaming: The Quest for Glory Series Back in the old glory days of Sierra On-Line, the world was taken by storm with franchise after franchise of quest adventures: King’s Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, Eco Quest, The Colonel’s... The at-the-time named “Hero’s Quest” (later changed to “Quest for Glory” thanks to copyright infringement and the legal system. Quest for Glory 2: Trial By Fire Rank: 2. Quest for Glory 1: So You Want To Be A Hero. What made the QFG series stick out from the other adventure games at the time was the inclusion of RPG elements and a battle system, as well being able to start the game as either a fighter, magic user, or thief. The rest of the time was spent saving up to buy more useful magic so I could actually get on with the game (also training with that magic so it wouldn’t keep backfiring on me. ). Wackiest Moment: Near the end, you get attacked by the Three Stooges... In order to get anywhere, I had to fight a goblin, steal his money, rest a few hours, then fight another goblin until I had enough cash to buy room and board. Throughout the series, you’d always be training, raising your stats, eating, staying at inns, meeting up with people, and solving quests. It was pretty fun and well worth replaying, so I thought I’d share a review of each game, ranking each one in the series where it sits on my favorites. The Pros: The first game in the series is pretty fun.

The Adventurer’s Tool bag Okay, let’s stop here and review a basic adventurer’s tool kit, shall we. Before an adventurer even starts adventuring he has several skills and abilities that you’ll want to get the hang of before you rush out there and... An adventurer can also slow and speed up time to some degree as well as control how acute his hearing is. These are the most basic of skills a hero can use, that third one being especially important. Lastly, we have your sack of goods, your ability to see just how great a hero you are, your innate ability to tell what time it is, and some other useul tasks. With these an adventurer can remember with perfect clarity his current state and then return to it if s/he ever needs to. Why is this important.
