Better than expected
I bought this CD without an expectation, I was there in the 80's when Gn'R came out but those years have been long gone and have not followed Slash all that closely. It is good to see that Slash has evolved and is not affraid to venture into different territory. I found most of the songs on this CD quite tasteful and well arranged, I am not a fan of Fergie and cringed when I saw Adam Levine's name but it turns out Adam delivers the song incredibly well.Don't get me wrong, my favorite song is still Doctor Alibi with Lemmy, as I am mainly a rocker but I am really pleased with this record as a listener and as a guitarist. You just can't have an 80's mullet forever you know? at some point it started looking ridiculous.

Product Description

Anybody who is the least bit familiar with rock music will associate the name Slash with that of a legendary rock guitarist and icon. As the former lead guitarist of mega-rock group Guns `N' Roses, Slash has had a dominant presence in music for more than twenty years. Referred to by many as one of the greatest and most influential guitar players of all time, Slash's signature style and commanding guitar mastery has impacted not only millions of fans around the world, but many of his fellow artists - in all genres of music. Slash's various projects over the years have included the multi-platinum global rock band Velvet Revolver as well as guest guitarist and collaborator for a countless list of artists including Lenny Kravitz, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, the Yard birds, Sammy Hagar and more. Add soundtrack albums and his most recent success via the video game best-seller Guitar Hero to truly begin to appreciate the legacy Slash has established through this point in his career. Slash has always been the artist others seek and invite to collaborate with on their material... now, for the first time, Slash will do the inviting. "Slash", Slash's first solo release, is a collection of new songs written in partnership with some of the most notable and legendary artists in music. After first enlisting the services of producing partner Eric Valentine (Queens of Stone Age, The All-America n Rejects), Slash compiled a premier rhythm section in bassist Chris Chaney (Jane's Addiction) and drummer Josh Freese (Nine Inch Nai ls). The album features an all-star roster of guest musicians including Ian Astbury of The Cult, Chris Cornell, Rocco DeLuca , Fergie, Dav e Grohl, Myles Kennedy of Alterbridge, Kid Rock, Lemmy Kilmeister of Motorhead, Ada m Levine of Maroon 5, Duff McKaga n, M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, and Andrew Stockda le of Wolfmother. Slash handled the majority of arranging and song writing duties and handpicked each guest artist to collaborate with on rounding out each track. Top to learn more

Rock & FN Roll!!!
Ever since I read in that he planned to do a "Slash and Friends" record I looked forward to the day it happened. Well that day is here, albeit under a different title. "Slash and Friends" was kind of a corny name anyway; the self-titled Slash is much cooler. Although I wouldn't be surprised to see this record's name ultimately default to the little inscription on the cover that reads "R&FNR". In fact that's exactly how I will refer to it for the rest of this review. And R&FNR is certainly an apt title, because this is a great Rock and FN Roll record. You get a nice array of rock musicians combined with a nice array of rock vocalists to lift Slash to what I hope will be a big selling record for the guy. It goes without saying that Slash rips it up on every song. I dare say that R&FNR may be Slash's best recording...

Rock or mellow-out to with a six pack, or as Slash might prefer, a bottle of Jack
Having recorded five albums with Guns N' Roses, two with Slash's Snakepit and two with Velvet Revolver, Slash finally unleashes his first solo album, with a motley collection of players. "Slash" (2010) features a cast of newer cats such as Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge), and Adam Levine (Maroon 5) and veterans such as Ian Astbury (the Cult) and Ozzy Osbourne."Slash" is a highly diverse album that should have something for everyone, as the album doesn't have a lot of repetition, as each song is a unique collaboration between Slash and the guest artist featured on the track. Bassist Chad Chaney (Jane's Addiction) and John Freese (A Perfect Circle, Guns N' Roses, Nine Inch Nails) round out the band.1. Ghosts (featuring Ian Astbury). A great mid-tempo opener that wouldn't have been out of place on the Cult's "Electric" (1987) album. Great to see Slash and Izzy rock once more.2. Crucify the Dead (featuring Ozzy Osbourne). It's a bummer but it's cool.
Having to buy an album that you already own, stinks. However, this bonus disc is incredible. In my opinion, the bonus tracks are as good as the album. The track Slash plays with Alice Cooper is my favorite track on this two disc set. Also the new version of Paradise City with Fergie and Cypress Hill, rules. Slash put out a masterpiece with this collection. I paid about thirty bucks for this c.d. and feel that I got a great deal! You need the bonus disc. I listen to it as much as the album.I am sorry to report that the bonus dvd is not that great. It needs more footage of Slash playing live. But please don't let this review make you decide if you will purchase the deluxe edition or not. If you don't own this edition you are missing out.Thank you Slash for putting out such an outstanding product! I got to see him at the Hollywood House of Blues walk out and guest with the Joe Perry Project. Seeing Slash jam with Mr. Perry was one of the greatest nights of my...

The idea for SLASH Deluxe Edition came about from Slash himself as a way to take fans on a journey of the start-to-fi nish process of making his fi rst solo album. Comprised of everything from the earliest demos conceptualizing his album all the way through to live video footage from the album release secret show performance at the famed Roxy, this Deluxe Edition features new content any fan would want to experience. Another Rip-Off
Sorry to burst your bubble JonO, but this was totally up to Slash. Produced & marketed by him without the pressures of a record company wanting this, that, or the other. See his video interviews online he has done where he says he enjoyed not having to bow to the record company demands.( [...]) (5:20-5:42)Just proves the 'independents' are as bad as the conglomerates. I see Ozzy has 3, 4+? versions of Scream out now!Otherwise, I totally agree with you. Why wasn't this put out at the start?, I'd have paid the extra for it. but now it's just a bad taste & another 'Extras' album I won't be getting. There's only so much the fans will put up with, and repeated versions of the same album with an extra bit here & there doesn't cut it. Make it all available on day one & let us choose which version we want or can afford!5 stars for the Album, 1 star for the rip-off

ULTIMATE SLASH
The biggest problem when Slash released his debut album earlier this year was that he included bonus tracks that were only available in certain countries, so many people were left without certain songs such as Fergie's & Cypress Hill's version of Paradise city, Alice Cooper & Nicole Scherzinger "Baby Can't Drive", as well as songs by Beth Hart and Koshi Inaba. Well now with this 2cd 1dvd Deluxe Edition all these are included and a whole lot more! Also included on the bonus cd are 5 live tracks, 4 of which are sung by Alter Bridge frontman Myles Kennedy, which include an acoustic version of his own track from the album "Back from Cali" as well as Acoustic versions of Velvet Revolvers "Fall To Pieces" and Guns N' Roses "Sweet Child Of Mine", both are good versions and shows that Kennedy was definitely the right singer to take on the road in support of the album, we also get a full rocking version of "Nightrain" which is outstanding! Instrumental track "Watch This" also has a...

Dual purposes: introspective memoir and the definitive insider GNR history
The story of Guns N' Roses is one of the most controversial in rock n' roll history. GNR has had a famously terse relationship with journalists and authors, and in recent years, former band members have publicly disagreed about the "real story" in the press. The band even threatened bodily harm to journalists in the lyrics of the Use Your Illusion albums! For the first time ever, someone on the inside has gone on record with to describe the genesis of the band, how they wrote and performed one of the most definitive rock albums of all time, the changes in the band's lineup, and finally, the implosion of all things GNR related. Who knew it would be the notoriously private lead guitarist, a soft-spoken man hidden behind a famous mop of hair, who would step up and tell the story?Slash's memoir is the diary of a dope fiend (released a month after the autobiography of his friend and former heroin-buddy Nikki Sixx). Well, the diary of a dope-, and women- and coke- and...

Product Description

From one of the greatest rock guitarists of our era comes a memoir that redefines sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll

He was born in England but reared in L.A., surrounded by the leading artists of the day amidst the vibrant hotbed of music and culture that was the early seventies. Slash spent his adolescence on the streets of Hollywood, discovering drugs, drinking, rock music, and girls, all while achieving notable status as a BMX rider. But everything changed in his world the day he first held the beat-up one-string guitar his grandmother had discarded in a closet.

The instrument became his voice and it triggered a lifelong passion that made everything else irrelevant. As soon as he could string chords and a solo together, Slash wanted to be in a band and sought out friends with similar interests. His closest friend, Steven Adler, proved to be a conspirator for the long haul. As hairmetal bands exploded onto the L.A. scene and topped the charts, Slash sought his niche and a band that suited his raw and gritty sensibility.

He found salvation in the form of four young men of equal mind: Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Steven Adler, and Duff McKagan. Together they became Guns N' Roses, one of the greatest rock 'n' roll bands of all time. Dirty, volatile, and as authentic as the streets that weaned them, they fought their way to the top with groundbreaking albums such as the iconic Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion I and II.

Here, for the first time ever, Slash tells the tale that has yet to be told from the inside: how the band came together, how they wrote the music that defined an era, how they survived insane, never-ending tours, how they survived themselves, and, ultimately, how it all fell apart. This is a window onto the world of the notoriously private guitarist and a seat on the roller-coaster ride that was one of history's greatest rock 'n' roll machines, always on the edge of self-destruction, even at the pinnacle of its success. This is a candid recollection and reflection of Slash's friendships past and present, from easygoing Izzy to ever-steady Duff to wild-child Steven and complicated Axl.

It is also an intensely personal account of struggle and triumph: as Guns N' Roses journeyed to the top, Slash battled his demons, escaping the overwhelming reality with women, heroin, coke, crack, vodka, and whatever else came along.

He survived it all: lawsuits, rehab, riots, notoriety, debauchery, and destruction, and ultimately found his creative evolution. From Slash's Snakepit to his current band, the massively successful Velvet Revolver, Slash found an even keel by sticking to his guns.

Slash is everything the man, the myth, the legend, inspires: it's funny, honest, inspiring, jaw-dropping . . . and, in a word, excessive.

pretty good junk
I could not resist this book. I can't believe I dropped the cash, but I did, and then spent all day today reading it. I just finished it.First, a short history of my fandom--I was a GnR fan when I was a very young teenager, I lived for their videos coming up on MTV, I bought Rip magazine, I saw them at the LA coliseum with my parents. Even though I came from a hippie artsy background, something about them hooked me and I became a slutty wannabe rocker chick at 13. I still think they're awesome musically.OK so my review--a fun read. Full of crazy details about partying, debauchery, excess. Pretty much every detail of GnR's formation, life, and dissolution. Slash's voice is pretty brash and honest. I trusted him, I trusted that he was always telling his truth and trying to be objective, and he's pretty careful about not trying to paint W. Axl like an as***le, and even praising him quite a bit. I skimmed some parts at the end because I don't care that...

The world of excess through the hazy eyes of Slash
If you dig reading about rock 'n' roll excess and the Guns n' Roses years as they really happened, then you won't be able to put this book down. While I read "Slash," I couldn't help but compare his exploits to Anthony Kiedis's in the book . Kiedis probably has Slash beat in the debauchery department -- but only just slightly. As advertised, Slash's tales of excessive drugs, drinking, sexual conquests and all-around craziness are shared in the book big-time. What starts as a tale of a sweet but troubled young kid turns into a monstrous, muddled life of dangerous drug use and plans gone awry. What's interesting is that the tone and writing style of the book is actually quite close to Kiedis's. And of course the tales Slash tells are the stuff of rock 'n' roll legend, either a total cliche or riveting reading, depending on your...
