Polk PSW-10: Great, with some reservations
I purchased this subwoofer about 2 months ago and since then have given it an extensive listening test. Following is a list of things I would do to improve sound quality as well as some reservations I have toward it.Before I start off, I would like to clarify one thing about the PSW-10 that might unjustly turn off potential buyers from it: it runs at 50 watts RMS. In the world of music and sound systems, one of the biggest misconceptions out there is that wattage directly correlates with how loud a speaker is. THIS IS NOT NECCESARILY TRUE! The efficiency of the driver determines how loud it gets at a certain wattage, not only the amount of power you're pumping into it! This is why you can buy, for example, computer speakers that boast 400watts of power and have them easily massacred in terms of volume by speaker set ups with half the power (for further examples, compare computer speaker systems to shelf systems to a true sound system. Excellent sound
I'm using this with an Onkyo TR-606 alongside a Toshiba 62" DLP HDTV and a full set of Polk speakers, and the sound quality is remarkable.The only caveat is that the subwoofer input has two connectors, but you really only need to connect one of them. The manual is far from clear about this, and plenty of people will probably spend extra on a Y cable, or worse yet, put in an adapter which will add both cost and loss of fidelity. But just connecting to the left input works fine. Subwoofers are mono anyway, and the double inputs are primarily there to make certain wiring configurations easier, not to add more sound fidelity.

Polk Audio PSW10 Powered Subwoofer
While I was looking for sub-woofer I was comparing PSW10 and PSW404. PSW404 sounds better but for the price $110 vs. $250 at J&R I opted for PSW10. The sale representative dropped the price for me even though they still selling PSW10 for $200 here. Those of you who worry about no LFE input, that shouldn't be a problem. All you have to do is connect the sub-woofer output of the receiver to either the right or left input on the sub-woofer. And then set the variable low pass filter on the sub-woofer to the highest setting. This will set the internal low pass filter above the low pass filter frequency given by your receiver and create an LFE input. Or you may use a RCA cable to provide a connection to both inputs on the sub-woofer from the LR pre-out from the receiver. Then adjust the cross over frequency from the woofer as desired. It sounds a little louder and better for me. I bought Monster sub-woofer cable and it sounds no better than RCA cable. Try not to waste your money on this. It...

Great Value!!! LOTS OF BASS
I installed these last week in my E46 M3 and have been very impressed. Much better low bass than my old 12's. Hooked up to the same amp a 1000-watt mosfet and capacitor. For the price you can't go wrong. Very clean and solid construction of the box and hasn't moved since I installed, though plan on a strap or brackets to ensure no movement under hard braking.Lights are nice and don't distract.No problems so far and have cranked to where the Harmon Kardons crackle and the bass is still solid. Need to replace interior speakers now and install dynomatt!

OMG What a Buy!!!!
I have had descent systems in the past. Was wanting to get another system. I wanted a low budget system. I seen these for $150.00 and was unsure of how they would perform. I took a chance and let me tell you I was overwhelmed. I didnt expect the bass the these subs produced when I connected them to my 800 watt cheap sony amp with a electronic crossover. You can not go wrong with these. You do need a crossover, it makes a big difference. the subs has a crossover built into them, but it isnt that good. I have had more expensive subs, these far out performs them. The Blue lights are a great bonus. Trust me if your not for sure and thinking about getting them, do it you will not be disappointed.

Hard hitting 12's that look awesome!
These Dual 12's can really perform when hooked up to a good amp of at least 1200 watts and a capiciter. I had them in a 92 ford escort hatch back and those 12's would shake the whole car from bumper tip to bumper tip! The rear license plate would jump at least 2 inches with only 2 bolts on the top of the plate. If you are looking for some hard hitting low bass shake you like crazy subs these are for you!

Dripping with bass
Bass is clear, deep, oh, and LOUD! If you really want your HT to sound like an IMAX theater, then I whole-heartedly recommend this sub. It fills in the low end seamlessly. It also takes the burden of reproducing low lows off of your other speakers (which aren't nearly as capable as the PSW505). This is not a cheap "rumble box". The first movie I watched with this sub connected is Peter Jackson's "King Kong". The raptor/bronto chase through the gully is off the hook! The 30-ton bronto's gallop will set up a standing wave in your intestinal tract!!! But loud does not mean muddy or rumbly with the 505. I was pushing the sub to about 50% volume and I thought my house's windows may break. And like I said, that was only at about 50% volume. Besides, you want to be a good neighbor and not max this thing out cuz it can be heard clearly from a good 50 feet away. I find that it performs exceedingly well at about 15% of its capability in my medium/small sided living room. At normal/reasonable...

Low and Tight
Was very iffy on this sub since I was going from a $1,000 Velodyne to this, but let me tell you I am not disapointed.Low tight bass with no distortion or rumble, sounds much better playing music than the Velodyne did,even though I use it mainly for movies.In my opinion you are getting a high end sounding subwoofer for $300, there is no way you can beat that!Tried to see how loud I could take it to see at what level it would start to distort, but could not get there because my windows were about to pop And my nose started to itch from the tremendous vibration, teeth rattled a little too! trust me I am not exagerating! BUY THIS SUB!!!!!Update: YES March 10 2012 and this sub is still going strong....Amazing!

Great sound from a Great company
Polk Audio is still making great speakers. I bought my first pair almost 30 years ago in 1978, had them for almost 25 years till I replaced them with smaller ones with a Velodyne sub. When my overpriced Velodyne sub went out on me last month, I decided to give Polk Audio a try since my first experience with Polk was so good. All I can say is that I'm glad I went with the 12" and for the approx $300 price tag, it sounds as good if not better than my high end $800 Velodyne sounded. For the extra $75 or so, get the 12" as opposed to the 10", you'll be glad you did.

Truly a Great Bargain but....
As an audiophile who has had numerous very high end (Meridian, Cello, McIntosh, B&W, Proceed...) components in and out of my systems over the years, I can say wholeheartedly that the F-12 is an outstanding value for the $170-$200 retail price. I bought it for my 13x20x9 budget media room which is currently under construction but have been using it in my 2 channel system for kicks over the last two weeks. The low frequency extension is excellent(down 4db at 25Hz in my room) and I would consider it pleasantly musical with speakers capable of flat response at or below 80Hz (which isn't asking much). It is when this sub is paired with very small speakers that it begins to tarnish; typical of many ported subwoofers, it just doesn't play well above the 80Hz range. For example, Paired with NHT Superzeros, which fall off a cliff at about 85-90Hz, some of the "punchiness" is lost. This frequency response trough is most likely the reason why some reviewers claim that the F-12 sounds...

Superb value for the price, but still a mediocre subwoofer.
I actually have a pair of 10" SVS subs, and then purchased this 12" sub for a friend. I did some testing with not only music but since wave test tones. Running 1/3 octave sine wave test tones through both brands, this 12" sub is very peaky at around 60hz, and output starts to fall rather steeply beyond 40hz-35hz... It does produce 25hz sine wave tones, but at very low levels that is basically not audible relative to the higher frequencies this sub can make. And at about 20hz, you can obviously hear doubling effects from this sub, where there is quite a lot of 2nd harmonics at 40hz present... So, this sub is not very loud at low end bass below 30 hz, has a rather poor bass response linearity (very peaky), and produces too much of 2nd order harmonics at its low end response (will make some music such as pipe organs sound like one note bass). It is great for making explosion sounds or pop music that is heavily equalized from 50hz to 80hz, but very poor at producing loud and clean low...

One of the best subs you can get for $200
This is probably one of the top 3 subs that you can regularly find for $250 or less. If it's on sale, buy it. It has more than enough power for small rooms, and enough power for medium rooms. Works great for movies, and works well for music if your front speakers can go 80hz or lower.The downside is finding good room placement. You have to experiment a little to get rid of any "boomy-ness" from your listening area.

great buy
I bought my subs locally they work awesome i don't even have them turned half way up and the hit really really hard they blow my friends system away and he has well over a grand in his. but i would recommend buying them locally of from a authorized dealer so you have warranty just in case. i talked with mtx to find a dealer the dealer on amazon is not a mtx dealer so you wont have a warranty but finger hut is a mtx dealer. but i do love the subs and plain on buying mtx subs for my other cars soon

I recently received a Vizio Sound Bar for Fathers Day to replace my very old surround system (which by the way I also highly recommend). I bought this to enhance the sound of my ceiling speakers. I wanted something small that would fit under a table or love seat so my choices were limited. It's just OK. It cranks out a lot of high, boomy bass but doesn't sound very natural. I have it hooked up to the subwoofer output of a Yamaha CRX-330BL CD Receiver. Unfortunately, neither the receiver nor the sub have a crossover setting. I think that would make all the difference in the world. On certain songs that have low bass notes, the sub seems to reproduce those notes pretty well. The problem is it has a peak at around the 100-200Hz range that makes everything sound boomy.Another complaint is the sub does not seem to turn off when no audio is fed to it. There is a control cord that came with it but no where to plug it into the receiver. Every other sub I own turns on when a signal is applied and turns off after a few minutes if no signal is detected. This is a poor design.I plan to open the...

The good: I enjoy the sound quality of this subwoofer. I use it to listen to classical music as a bookshelf speaker with my Logitech internet radio.The bad:1. For the sound it only has an RCA input. Needed an additional adaptor cable to convert the 3.5mm output from the radio.2. The power on/off is manual. When I set my radio to sleep, the subwoofer stays on all night. The system on/off works only with Yamaha sound device.
