I don't own this cd and I have never even listened to it and yet I would recommend it to anyone. I love this movie even at age 16 and can't get enough of the music. It is very uplifting and joyful. Musically it is also fantastic. Cornelius and Thumbelina are both voiced by incredible singers and who couldn't love the french accent of Giacimo the swallow? (sorry if I misspelled his name) The music is fun for everyone. I turn on the movie while I do other things only so I can hear the music. It is a wonderful soundtrack!

Finally!
The Thumbelina soundtrack, although I don't have it yet, is fantastic. It reflects the morals of the movie; hope, true love, and making the impossible possible. I have waited since I was seven to have this soundtrack, and now at double that age I'm finally getting it! The voices in the movie, epescially Jodi Benson's (Thumbelina), are just phenominal. I can't wait until I get the soudntrack!!

Worth Every Penny!!
I have always loved this movie with all of my heart since I was a very young child. I would watch the VHS tape we had over and over again. I'm 19 now and I still love Thumbelina just as I did back then. I would watch it a lot before I went to be because it never failed to put me in a good mood. The music in this movie is wonderful and I thought that I should probably get the soundtrack. I wasn't aware of how rare and expensive this soundtrack was until I started investigating it more. I thought over the decision to buy it for a long time and finally broke down and bought it for 27 bucks plus shipping, used of course, from an amazon seller and I'm so glad I did! I listen to it so much and enjoy it every time. I luckily got it for a really good price, but I suggest you make the investment now if you really love Thumbelina.

What gives? This is a sweet, endearing, lovely story with great animation--so why do so many people dislike it? Heck, after watching this movie, *I* daydreamed about being Thumbelina. Admit it, wouldn't you like it?The traditional Hans Christian Anderson story: A woman who wishes for a daughter is blessed with one in a flower--and she's about six inches tall. But this doesn't matter to Mother or her array of barnyard animals, who love Thumbelina dearly. However, soon a handsome fairy prince named Cornelius arrives and is smitten with Thumbelina. After taking her on a ride on his pet bumblebee, he has to leave but promises to come back.That night, Thumbelina is kidnapped by a family of singing frogs, but as she escapes with the help of a French swallow, she ends up in deeper and deeper trouble. Some things in this movie are rather cloying--the jitterbugs, for example--but they're too small a part of the movie to be noticeable. Thumbelina is not a macho heroine, so...

An under-rated Don Bluth production
I didn't see "Thumbelina" until I was in my 20's, but since I love animation, it didn't make much difference. I love this movie and finally got it on DVD a couple days ago. Jodi Benson did another great job lending her voice to the lead character and the music was great too. The only complaints I have about the movie, to echo other reviewers, is that some of the animals in the farm were very strange looking. Also, I couldn't help but notice that Thumbelina was constantly losing her balance no matter where she was standing. Still, I think Don Bluth did an excellent job on "Thumbelina" and that it deserved much more recognition. I admit, I'm a softy for fairy tales, and I actually love her innocent, naive personality. It was great to see her make the right decision at the end though, even knowing she might be alone. Unlike what some reviewers have said, I think that makes her a great role model. Ranking just behind the best of animator Don Bluth's films (Anastasia and The Secret of NIMH), Thumbelina is a bubble-light version of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale. The finger-sized heroine goes about the old-fashioned trials of trying to find a good man, but the film is clever enough to make it endearing for the 3-6 set and more than passable for adult viewers. Barry Manilow provides much of the song score, which helps immensely. The ballad "Let Me Be Your Wings" is as good as Disney's best. Carol Channing and Charo have a good ol' time with their songs too. Lovely animated musical version of THUMBELINA featuring a fantastic score by Barry Manilow and the well-executed animation style of Don Bluth.Tiny Thumbelina's peaceful life with her mother is enlivened by her chance encounter with Cornelius, Prince of the Fairies. Still one of my favorite soundtracks after all these years
2007 will mark the 10th "birthday" of the animated film, Anastasia. When I was little, this was one of my favorite animated films. (All the way up in the top 10 with The Lion King) One reason I liked it so much was easily the music.1. A Rumor in St. Petersburg-A funny song that played near the beginning of the movie. Not something you'd want to play really loud, but still a funny track.2. Journey to the Past- Anastasia singing about "home, love, family". Isn't that the main theme of the movie? Lovely, high quality song.3. Once Upon a December- I LOVE this song. It's beautiful.4. In The Dark Of The Night- O.o An old creepy man singing about killing an innocent girl? Er... yeah. Unusually Meaningful Words Accompanying Mature Melodies
I must confess: This is the first ever CD that I bought back in 1997, and it's been a beautiful musical gem that's got me into appreciating other various genres of music! There is not one song on this soundtrack that you could possibly dislike...which brings me to the curious fact: WHY WASN'T THIS NOMINATED FOR BEST SOUNDTRACK (as far as I know)! It isn't a matter of being biased in enjoying the tunes here: whether or not you support Fox, or its fictitious rendition of historical characters, don't matter in this judgement. The music of "Anastasia" is LIVING TALENT on its own.From the bright start in "A Rumour in St. Petersburg", follows the touchingly nostalgaic "Journey to the Past". Stunning, diverse and emotional
The pop tracks are the only thing, in my opinion, that keeps this CD from being 5 stars. I'm a huge fan of musicals, and this is a good, good album which covers a wide range of moods. From the exuberant "A Rumour In St. Petersburg," to the haunting "Once Upon A December," this is an album that will work its way into your mind and have you humming songs from it. Not only are the vocal pieces fun, and stirring, and full of emotion, but the instrumental tracks are amazing. My personal favorites are track "Prologue," where the Russian chorals have me turning the CD player up as loud as it will go, and "Nightmare," which perfectly captures the dreamlike terror of Anya's trance. That being said, I understand that it's the animated movie convention to have a single that can be released for the radio, but how many does this one have?
