GREAT buy !!
Do not purchase a more expensive knife strip.......this one is a fantastic value. The only problem I have with this product, and I do wish I could give 1/2 stars, because I would give it 4.5 stars, is that there are no installation instructions included, but it is fairly simple to install: (it comes with 2 screws which act as tabs, and there are black platic slots on the back, which slide out. Simply mark where the screws will line up and screw them into place, take out one of the tabs, slide one side of the strip onto one of the screws, then slide the tab you took out back into the strip and over the screw "tab". Done.) Still, installation instructions should should have been included. This product holds a 8 inch chef's knife, a 6.5 inch santoku, 2 9 inch slicers, a 9.5 inch bread knife, and about 3 paring knives (about 2.5 inches each) and a serrated tomato slicer (about 4 inches or so). The magnet is very strong and effectively holds the knives in place. This is a much safer method...

looking for the real chicago?
this isn't faux-dive... this is a divefor those Chicago residents sick of the yuppie bar onslaught or visitors looking for the real Chicago (in the nelson algren sense), this book is a must have. stockton understands hemingway's "sweat on a wine bottle" in his descriptions of the peeling paint, fading Sox posters, anemic lighting, buzz-in bathrooms, etc. of Chicago's best kept secrets.the tavern is a dying animal in our town, and this wide-ranging look across all North/South/West/Southeast sides may help put them on the preserve. if you aren't afraid to come in contact with "real people," read this book. otherwise, enjoy your $6 budweiser.

“A great and informative read! I’m jealous.”—Wendy Mitchell, author, New York City’s Best Dive Bars
“This book makes me glad Prohibition ended.”—Al Capone
The third title in our Dive Bar series, Chicago’s Best Dive Bars features opinionated reviews of over 90 of the grungiest and grittiest drinking establishments in the Windy City. If you want to avoid the tourist traps listed in those “other” bar guides and find out where the “real” people do their drinking, then Chicago’s Best Dive Bars, like its New York and San Francisco predecessors, is the drinking person’s guide to the delightfully filthy underside of Chicago bar life.
Jonathan Stockton is a freelance writer, proofreader and Leap Year baby. He lives, works, drinks and recovers the next day in Chicago.
More narrative than not
On one hand, this book truly shines in uncovering hidden gems throughout the city that more mainstream bar guides completely disregard. Mr. Stockton helps provide a means to access areas and aspects of the city that are nearly impossible to find information on. For that, I commend him. Taverns are a dying breed in this city, especially ones that don't serve food or cater to some niche, and in some respects, Mr. Stockton's book will contribute to ensuring their survival.I have been to the majority of bars that are mentioned in the book and some of his reviews are excellent. However, I should warn that especially regarding the South Side, his lack of neighborhood understanding is more than apparent. He seemed to choose his bars at whim from the midst of many solid candidates--based on sheer anecdote rather than character. This sort of approach also applied to his treatment of the Southwest and the Far North, which I think he tried to portray as much more stereotypically...

Chicago was a 2 1/2 hour drive for us. The show was at the Double Door which is a small bar. He then said it again: “Wanna go see COC play a bar in Chicago. If you’re in Chicago and get a chance to visit, you should. I don’t remember many of the songs, but I do remember “Vote With a Bullet” and “Broken Man” being played. I got into CoC via the thrash heavy album Blind had just been released and the first time I heard it, I almost threw it out the window. I picked up my friend from work and he poked his head out the back door and yelled something that I couldn’t hear.

One such place in Chicago is Aloha Eats, 2534 N. Clark St., where you can get the Spam Loco Moco – three slices of grilled spam, two eggs (any style) and brown gravy – for $8.35. 92. Squirrel: I love squirrels. Watching them. Not eating them.
