Great for raining season
I own this awesome rain proof jacket for two weeks now, and I can tell how I feel about this jacket- Functional - rain proof 10/10 (had chances to try this it on 2-3 times) - wind proof 8.5/10- Comfort 8.5/10 (compare with my old nike storm fit I would prefer having mesh layer) - trade off between comfort and light weight- Packed 10/10- Look 10/10 I like the design and fit (size S really fit a little guy 5"5 )- Durable ?/10 cannot tell yetOverall I give it 8.8/10 for this jacketbut for the deal when I got this one I will rate it 5 star Top to learn more

Runs a bit small
I am 165lbs at 6'1" with a 74 inch reach and found the size Large to be too short in the arms so I returned it. However, the rest of the jacket fit perfectly. Definitely has the tailored slim fit going on which I like. I am worried the XL will be too baggy around my stomach area. I am currently waiting for the color to be in stock so I can try it again. Practical Windproof Jacket
The Alp-X is an excellent windproof jacket for commuting or endurance cycling. It has a relatively slim fit which keeps it from flapping in the wind, but doesn't the awkward tightness that some race jackets have (i.e. Gore Oxygen Jacket). When the sleeves are removed, it still conforms to your body such that you're not wearing a paperbag with arm holes. It actually fits better than some of the cycling vests I've purchased in the past.The Alp-X is completely windproof and completely eliminates windchill. This makes the jacket great for cold and cool weather riding. I've used the jacket in temperatures down to 35 degrees with just a short sleeve jersey. The wind is completely blocked and the only discomfort is the direct heat loss through the thin material. In warmer weather (50+), the wind blocking is eliminates the sudden temperature drops that can when riding through shady areas or coming out from windblocks.In warmer weather, the jacket can be uncomfortable... Bike Jacket
I bought this jacket as a Christmas present for someone who bikes, swims and runs. We sometimes get together on weekends and go hiking in the hills. He often wears this jacket because it is lightweight but still keeps him warm. It has pouches to keep snacks in. He is very happy with this jacket. Top to learn more

Great but not equal to the Gore Countdown overall
I have tried this one (Alp-X), the Countdown AS, and the Phantom. All with removable sleeves. The idea works out really well on all three, although the Phantom is different (see review of that).This one is similar to the Countdown as a lightweight, removable sleeve, jacket which has a second layer of open mesh inside for more insulation and breathability vs. a straight shell like the Xenon.I think I likely will keep the Alp-X Amazon had a good price for it, but I am getting two Countdowns (as for some reason Amazon had a temporary price for yellow and for red ($76 for red in M!!!!).The Alp-X has for me nicer fitting arms, and I much prefer the pocket layout of the chest pocket and the two twin rear pockets with zippers to the Countdown's two hand warmer pockets and single center rear zipper pocket. However, the Countdown has a drawstring at the bottom so you can really close if off it you want and the Alp-X was open at the bottom (not fitting snug)... Top to learn more

Like the Countdown, I can wear this as a vest, and... Fortunately, the zip-off sleeves doubles as vents and can lets you control the amount of circulation that gets inside the jacket. I've used the jacket in temperatures down to 35 degrees with just a short sleeve jersey.
