Realistic High Quality sound without compromise
I have owned a pair of La Scalas for over 30 years, and they are still going strong with no loss of sound quality. This is the only pair of speakers you will want or need in your lifetime.AmplifiersMcIntosh stackYamaha 2020 (30 years old and still outstanding)Pioneer Elite top of the line 5.1 receiverNew 7.1 Elite I will be hooking up over 2009 Christmas breakSourcesOriginally I used Tandberg and Nakamichi tape decks, Revox B77 reel to reel and a Thorens TD MKII top of the line turn table. With the advent of digitally recorded, digitally remastered CDs and universally good CD-DVD players I have moved exclusively to CDs and Radio for source.Pros* Incredibly efficient, minimizing or eliminating amplifier distortion.* Inaudible distortion at any volume up to and including ears bleeding.* Unsurpassed tonal quality which is most evident on digitally recorded classical music. One Word
I have also owned these speakers for over 30 years. Paid 1200 for the pair, brand new and unfinished. Still own them. I can easily describe these speakers in one word....incredible.When you hear them, you will want them. You will do like I did....found a way to get the money together to buy a pair. If I could afford them, I would build an audio room and have a pair of Klipschorns in the corners. Best speakers in the world, in my opinion.

A "Musician's Loudspeaker" and also great for home theater!
I want to offer a few remarks and supplement what other reviewers have said about the quality of this fantastic loudspeaker, but specifically concentrating on the "nature" of its sound and about its use in home theater systems. I have had my (original series) La Scalas since the early 90's when they came to me used, and I most certainly concur with the other reviewers about their sound and build quality!Regarding the "nature" of Klipsch audio reproduction in general, when I worked in a medium-ish high-end stereo/video store in the late 80's to early 90's, I picked up a pair of Klipsch KG-1 "bookshelf speakers" (the originals, not the 1.5's). At the time, I worked also as a musician and recording engineer, and was looking for a high quality flat/neutral set of "near-field monitors" (used in the studio recording process to ensure that the recording is accurate and of high quality). The Klipsch rep who came to our store one day highly recommended the KG-1's for this purpose...

Klipsch Heresy III Three-Way Horn-Loaded Loudspeaker with 12-Inch Subwoofer Walnut

Even though I don't own the new Cornwall III, I do have a pair of the Cornwall I. Purchased new in 1972 and still in perfect order today these speakers are awsome. Because Klipsch will produce exactly what you give it. My kids and nephews have grown up around these speakers and without any doubt were the first choice for their own home systems today. Cornwall by Klipsch. With Cornwall you won't need it any more.

Just want to say, material choice here criticized is a reasonable choice and commonly found in the very finest speakers. These are really efficient speakers, i. e. if one were using a smaller amplifier, like a single ended tube kit, these might be a reasonable choice.

When the speakers are delivered, measure them carefully and purchase two smoked glass tops (tempered if you are worried about the kids breaking the glass), have the glass company round and polish the edges of the glass and mount it with at least 6... With the advent of digitally recorded, digitally remastered CDs and universally good CD-DVD players I have moved exclusively to CDs and Radio for source. If you don't have a high end miter saw, cut the front 2x10 for the full 24-26 inches across the front, have the sides run to the back and place a 22-24 inch piece on the back to hide the seams. I like the dollies because you can move the speakers easily for cleaning, vacuuming or re-arranging, one person can't lift a speaker. Buying a used pair of La Scalas typically means finding a pair that has outlived their first owner, no one sells these while the can still breath. If you are standing these on a wooden or tile floor, I suggest that you purchase a good quality carpet to fit under them like a good plush door mat, for sound isolation. If you don't like the black dolly look, build some wooden platforms with 2 x 10s and 3/4 furniture plywood on the top, sand them and stain them dull flat black. You will need approximately 24 x 24 footprint space in two corners of the room to maximize the quality of the sound. If you are placing these down the basement, you can buy black cabinet dollies at you local music store that sells amplified guitars and band supplies. Easy on the ears, with no distortion and accurate reproduction of the source, you can listen to these speakers all day with no ear fatigue. I have owned a pair of La Scalas for over 30 years, and they are still going strong with no loss of sound quality.
