Extreme Performance in Audio and HT
Exterior Finish - Got the speakers and unpacked them to an amazing sight of cherry finish with the high gloss back top. My wife absolutely loved it. They are one of the bigger towers and will dwarf even a 40inch TV.Sound - Listened to a lot of speakers..Paradigm studios, klipsch Icons, reference series, Polk Rtis, PSB image towers and Infinity towers....to me the paradigm studios were the best in sound but they were astronomical in terms of price. Finally it was between these and the PSBs, the klipsh Icons and the polks RTis sounded bright to me. Did a lot of listening with my own cd at Frys, my friends place, bestbuy and a whole list of places. The psbs seemed to have the best mid range but lacked the clarity at the highs these provided. The klipsch Icons were ruled out as even the TSI400s sounded better than those. Since i was looking for beefier mids I went with these and have not looked back since. Running them using an Emotiva amp. I have pushed them to a true 100...

Great High Quality Home Audio Speakers
I bought my Polk Audio TSi 500's from Amazon and had it shipped direct to my home. The shipping was handled very well and was delivered by a local carrier that handled large packages for Amazon. The speaker came direct from Amazon's warehouse in Southern California.Before I chose the Polks, I auditioned several speakers from Frys Electronics & Best Buy. I had a limited budget of less than $1,000 for a pair of speakers so I listened to speakers that fell within this price range. I listened to Klipsche's offerings, the Polk Audio TSi 400, Bose 301 and Accoustimass system, B&W, & Definitive Technology. They all sounded good enough but there were only a few standouts. The Bose 301's were cheap at less than $300 each but they sounded weak--just wasn't in the ballpark of the others. These speakers should be in the $200/each for their sound quality. The Accoustimass 2-channel stereo speakers sounded better and definitely would present a very small footprint in my living room...

A note on the cherry exterior
Much has been written about the acoustical qualities of this speaker so I just wanted to add a comment about the cherry exterior. First off, it is beautiful. It looks like quality wood furniture and the high gloss piano black accents are very sophisticated.I want to assure you that the color of the cherry is not nearly as orange or shiny as it appears in the picture. The photograph makes it appear almost garish in my opinion. It is a classy muted cherry and the finish has a fairly flat hand rubbed appearance.This may be good news to you or not depending on your taste, but at least now you have something to help you decide.

Nice rich sound even at lower power levels.
I have a pair of these as the fronts on my system, connected to a Denon AVR. I had compared the TSi300's and TSi400's at a local big box store and there was no comparison to my mind. The 400's with the extra 5 1/4" driver just have a fuller richer sound than the 300's. While the TSi500 was tempting, I couldn't justify the price for the size of my living room. To be honest I can't see ever running the TSi400's at their top level without the police arriving at my house within 10 minutes.They are tall, but not overly so and heavy weighing in at 32 pounds each. They are not however overly wide, taking up just 7 inches from side to side. For some perspective a dollar bill is 6 inches wide. So they take up a minimal amount of real estate from the front. I like the cherry veneer, sure it doesn't look exactly like the real cherry stair case they are sitting next to, however the black just looks like painted plywood.I have these paired up with a CS10 as the...

Polk TSI400, pretty darn good
You know, these speakers are pretty good. The price is a killer for the quality you receive. I bought these for my second system. I did not want to spend $4000 but, I wanted a decent loudspeaker that wouldn't massacre the signal. Now, they are no match for the Gemme Audio Katana's in my main system, as a matter of fact there are not many matches against the Gemme's. Of course the Katana's run $15,000. In listening to the 400's I found the first impression to be lean and somewhat muddled in the mid's. This effect was of course due to the break in issue. I would expect the break in time to be about 100 hrs. After this point the sound relaxed appreciably while bass and mid control improved. The highs never had a shrillness or edge and I would say the highs became more focused but imaging expanded after breakin. Holy cow, the real deal!
Let me say first you read a review on any quality higher end/above average speaker you hear alot about "clarity", "crispness", "sound stage" and such. Well this speaker has all of it!I got them for my basement where my HD projector takes up a large part of the wall where the screen is. The tall narrow design fits perfectly and the cherry finish is sharp. Prior to these speakers I had some Cerwin vega 12's from the late nineties. They sounded good and boomed as expected but covered part of the screen. I knew the new Polks would be a sharper sound but holy crap! I'm hearing things in the music that I never heard before. The subtleties in the recording that I never knew where there are jumping out at me. I'm talking I've listed to this stuff on two home stereo's, all four of my car stereos, headphones, bose ipod docks and whatever else. These are the best. They sound like studio monitors. These speakers are great with almost any kind of music. Crisp, filled with great dynamics in sound, and potent at any volume level, these speakers are truly amazing for the price. I purchased two of these towers and power them through a Sony 2.0 channel stereo receiver. They stand right in front of me at my computer desk.Sound is clear through all thresholds. Nice bass, good (though slightly muddled) mids, and very good highs. The speakers carry the music very well from a variety of styles (from rock to pop to classical). They are very good with the lows. Vocals are clear and distinct against the background of instruments.For the aborning audiophile I highly recommend these speakers. Comparatively they are inexpensive and they reproduce significantly higher grade music and sound than do a standard set of lower level Sonys, such as the SS-B3000 set. Sound, with good cables, is better reproduced, more certain and pronounced, and of far greater quality...

These excellent towers need to be burnt in (broken in) before their full potential is realized. Should take around 15 hours, maybe more. Out of the box, they sounded a little edgy in the upper frequencies when pushed hard. The mid range and bass response was excellent from day one and improved as the speakers were broken in. Now, after three weeks of use, they sound splendid. I listen to Classical mostly and some New Age recordings. The TSi-300's 'image' beautifully in stereo, which is very important. The soundstage is very wide. Great for home theater as well. Highly recommened...

Great Performance for the Price
I picked up a pair of TSi300's and they perform much better than I would expect from speakers at this price level. The TSi series is positioned between the Monitor series and the RTi series and rightfully so. They are an evolutionary improvement to the Monitor 50 (improved matierals, better bass response, better imaging, more detailed highs), though they lack the pristine clarity of the RTi series. They are, however, definitely a world ahead of the cheap R50's that they replaced in my living room, and will easily outperform budget speakers and even some higher end speakers.What really strikes me about the TSi300's is the sophistication and dynamics of the sound they provide, especially relative to the price point they're at. Considering the compact size of the speakers, they provide suprisingly good sound imaging, projecting a wider sound-field than you'd initially expect, without getting needlessly loud or overbearing. TSI400
I just bought these TSI400's and a cs10 center channel speaker. I hooked everything up to the new Onkyo 607 receiver. The 400's sound absolutely amazing. I bi-amped them to maximize the power, so they have 180 watts RMS. They reach loud volumes with still sounding amazing. The bass is tight and punchy. If you are into bass, you will need to get a PWS. Don't get me wrong, the bass on these speakers is great, but you really need to get the sub to complete the sound. The clarity of the sound that comes from these speakers is why I rated them so high. Would definately recommend for your floor standing speakers.These are great speakers that won't break the bank to own.One last thing... I have heard that if you get the TSI500's you may not even need a PSW. For only $200 more for the pair it might be something to consider.

Great looking and even better sounding.
I listened to these side by side versus a set of Klipsch in a local big box store. The Klipsch were actually more in price but I thought the horn tweeters sounded too harsh. The polk sounded crystal clear and were easy to listen to. They had the TSI300's and TSI400's side by side. The 400's sounded "fuller" with the extra speaker. The great part was that the 400's were on sale and were actually cheaper then the 300's. There was no way I was going to miss out on this deal. I also have the CS10 for the center speaker. Sill deciding on either the 100's or 200's for the surrounds. Overall very happy.

Excellent quality and value. Polk makes a great speaker.
I am using these as my main front speakers, with a new Pioneer 1019 receiver. The sound and build quality are excellent -- especially for the money. The only reason I give them a 4 on sound is because you will definitely need a sub to fill in the bass. Maybe they were designed with that thought already in mind, and I do have a sub, but it's just my 2 cents. If you have a sub, or plan to buy one, these speakers are a great choice. BTW, the 400's are worth the extra $200 if you can afford it -- they have a fuller sound. I initially bought the 300's and took them home, but swapped them for the 400's.
